Ruby hid her eyes as she stood with her head against a tree, counting loudly for the other to hear. Once she had reached fifty, the highest she could count, she lowered her arms and spun around, a look of joy painted on her face.
"Ready or not, here I come!"
She dashed off into the park, her silver eyes darting from bushes and trees to the playground. She knew Blake would be tough so she would have to look for her last, Yang wouldn’t be too difficult but Weiss, on the other hand, would be all too easy.
She ran to the playground, scaling the jungle gym with ease, standing atop it to get a better view. As she scanned the park she noticed a little white head duck down quickly behind a bush. Smiling at her discovery Ruby jumped down and was at a dead run the very next step. The problem with Weiss was that she always wore white, it was too easy to find her. But as she approached her friend’s hiding place she noticed something in the tree above and her smile grew even wider.
"Found you, Weiss!" She shouted, jumping over the bush and startling the white haired girl behind it.
"Geez!" Weiss pouted. "I hate this game!"
Ignoring her complaints, Ruby turned her gaze upward, pointing to a low hanging branch and the upside down blond girl clinging to it. “Found you, sis!”
Yang fell from the tree and landed in the bush, her golden locks all that was visible before she came crawling out. “You got me.” She giggled.
"Why would you right next to me?" Weiss asked.
Yang shrugged. “Seemed like a good idea.” Then to Ruby, “Now you just have to find Blake.”
"And I know just where to start!" Ruby cheered, turning on her heel and running off towards the wooded area not far from them
She burst into the dense copse of trees, easily hopping over branches and shrubbery alike. Blake always had the best hiding spots and it was always difficult to find her, but Ruby had a good feeling this time.
As she ran the trees around her grew darker and she slowed to a trot, her smile fading. The sun seemed to hide from her and as she walked she felt as if she could hear another set of footsteps trudging through the brush.
Whirling around, hoping it was Blake sneaking up on her, Ruby turned only to stand face to face with her. She stood, staring at Ruby with those eyes of hers and an impossibly large grin on her face. Ruby back away slowly only to have her match her pace as shadows surrounded them and Ruby heard the baying of those wolf-like beasts that followed her.
Ruby’s back bumped into something and with a yelp she threw herself to the side, turning in her steps. Blake stood behind her wearing a look of concern with the sun flitting through the branches and leaves above.
"Ruby?" She asked. "Are you alright? The game’s over."
Ruby, a hand to her chest to still her racing heart, felt relief wash over her as she glanced over her shoulder and found she was gone.
"Come on." Blake said. "Yang and Weiss are waiting."
With a silent nod Ruby grabbed Blake’s hand as she began walking, the black haired girl pausing for a moment before wrapping her fingers around the small hand in hers. With Blake leading, Ruby followed, a hand rubbing at her eyes, wiping away tears that formed.

Storm Ravaged Hope
Petals are a scatter
Across rain torn grass,
Vines caressing leaves
Fallen from bare trees
To the right, the garden
Holds a scene of crush -
Remains of rose petals
Create a scene of red
Shimmering beneath
Lightning strikes
One blood red petal fallen
For every death occurred
In this unknown village
But there in the midst
Lies a rose of black,
Drenched in sorrow
From its very tip
To the loose roots
Remained in the soil
A few darkened petals
To remember our losses,
But a living death
Meant for true hope
Literature
Sands of Illumination
Wings spread wide
Heart beat
Gone silent,
My pulse -
The ocean tide
Waves of life fly
Past me
To begin,
Once was me -
Washing away
In a black ink sky
I shed
My skin,
I am reborn -
In every dawn
Below are the waves
Feathers
Falling,
Becoming anew -
In open existence
Sliding through sea foam
I play
Breathing in
The salty spray -
Sinking into the sand
Released to a dream
Beneath a
Glaring sun,
Letting in light -
Feet burned by sand
Literature
drive two hundred
and i'm sleepless again —
drove for three hours
and i screamed at the steering wheel
i cried hard and ugly and blindly
like i didn’t know how to
like it was the first time
there was a hurricane
in the drivers seat and it
swept everything down into the engine, even
the bobble-head chihuahua named taco
was ripped from his stand
and churned over and over
drowned in the fury of me
and the small dreamcatcher that
hangs from the mirror
must have been flushed too
down beneath the hood
maybe caught on the battery
where i attached the jumper cables
in the supermarket
parking lot
to jum
